Beauty Against Bullying: Africa Bound

Beauty Against Bullying (BAB): Africa bound is a community based fashion show with a global reach.   90% of students are affected by bullying. This statistic reaches epic proportions when we consider the fact that we are a global society.  This multicultural charity event that will raise awareness and increase self confidence by teaching individuals to love themselves regardless of their size, culture, age, gender or socio-economic background. We will form a collaborative relationship across continents to unite with Good Shepherd Sustainable Learning Foundation (GSSLF), which benefits Good Shepherd Home for Children, an orphanage in Cameroon, West Africa.

Our vision is to offer enhanced exposure to different lifestyles and create a peer mentorship program between american students and the children of the orphanage through skype classrooms. This event will be the catalyst for creating an art, music and sewing room at GSSLF’s school, which will provide scholarships to the orphans.

This project is inspired and supported by the remarkable life story of Dr. Nche Zama, renowned cardiovascular/thoracic surgeon Medical Director of the ESSA Heart and Vascular Institute at Pocono Medical Center, and Board Member of Good Shepherd Sustainable Learning Foundation.  Dr. Zama grew up in Cameroon, West Africa.  Bullied as a child, he used education as his vehicle out of a life of poverty.  Those who live in poverty or are victims of low self-esteem due to bullying will understand that education, self-empowerment and creative opportunity represent the key that opens the door to a far more incredible life-- limitless possibility.
